The game kicked off at a very fast pace with both teams struggling to get a foot on the ball resulting in the ball being turned over in possession many times.

Newmarket started the half very brightly pressing high and trying to turn the AFC defence, they were rewarded for this in the fourth minute when they took the lead from a defensive error which allowed the Newmarket foward to run from the half way line and slot past the goalkeeper and give Newmarket the lead. This however seemed to spark a bit of life into Sudbury who responded well and did not let the early goal phase them. Despite some intrciate clever passing from the AFC boys, it was a long throw from Callum Watson that fell kindly for Ollie Peters to finish well to level the game in the eleventh minute. AFC Sudbury began to pass the ball around nicely creating some good opportunities, sliding the front men through and also some dangerous crosses from the right-hand side from Jake Colclough who was unlucky not have an assist after his cross was met by Ollie Dunlop but his shot went slightly over. Newmarket however still looked particularly dangerous on the counter attack and nearly equalised on the break if not for a Tom Dettmar block from a pull back. On the thirty minute mark AFC took the lead through a moment of individual quality from Callum Watson who spotted the goalkeeper off his line and proceeded to lob him from close to 40 yards out. Shortly after this Sudbury made the most of their momentum when Callum Fuller scored beating the keeper at the near post with a powerful strike after being slid through by a midfield player. Sudbury dominated possession for the rest of the half playing some excellent short and sharp football but the score remained 3-1 at half time.

The second half kicked off and Newmarket similarly to the first half started very sharply, Sudbury expected this and tried to ride the early wave of pressure keeping it tight with some good defending early on. The tireless work rate of Callum Fuller paid off in the 55th minute when he pressed the goalkeeper into kicking it against him which lead to the ball being rolled into an empty net to give Sudbury a 4-1 advantage. This goal helped Sudbury push on as they started to control the second half, a corner kick in the 60th minute was delivered into the penalty spot that was met by Joe Wright who miss-timed his header resulting in some confusion in the Newmarket penalty area. The ball was then played back out the the left flank for Joe Walker to deliver again and Joe Wright headed home at the back post to make it 5-1. Roughly five minutes later Callum Fuller was in on goal again and his shot across goal was converted by Ollie Dunlop 6-1 AFC. Callum Fuller then completed his fully deserved hat-trick in the 70th minute, he then followed this up with another smart finish in quick concession to make it 8-1. AFC continued to play to a high tempo in the late stages of the game as the relentless performance from the boys was capped off by Callum Fuller in the last minute as he dinked over the on-coming keeper to make it 9-1 and score his fifth of the match. A convincing performance from the Yellow and Blues sees them into the next round of the FA Youth Cup as the game finished 9-1.
