The U18s advance into the first round of the FA Youth Cup after a thrilling encounter with Woodbridge Town U18s which was decided in extra time.

AFC started brightly with a great chance for Callum Fuller to open the scoring in the first couple of minutes but was denied by a superb save from the Woodbridge Town goalkeeper. Moments later Fuller came close again with a shot just going wide of the target. Sudbury continued to attack and it was from the right hand side where full back Jake Colclough found himself in an advanced position but his shot was blocked well by the Woodbridge defence and they managed to clear their lines on the half hour mark. Ollie Dunlop came close in the first half with a couple of shots just missing the mark. Woodbridge then came close when a shot from the edge of the box was well saved by Curtis Child in the AFC goal. Sam Mills Was denied by another superb save from the Woodbridge keeper despite his effort being ruled offside.

The ball was in the back of the Woodbridge net ten minutes into the second half as Fuller slotted the ball past the oncoming keeper but the linesman held his flag up and Fuller was ruled offside. A free kick was awarded to the home side in a dangerous position but the Woodbridge striker's attempt was drilled wide of Child's goal after 70 minutes. Sudbury then took the lead after great work from Ryan McNicholas who's pass found Ollie Dunlop inside the box who calmly finished well from close range. However, the Woodpeckers hit back with an equaliser just minutes later after a cross in from the right was met well by a Woodbridge attacker and his header was placed perfectly into the corner of the AFC goal leaving Curtis Child no chance.

Sudbury dominated the extra time period as they looked the more likely to go on and get a winner. A Dunlop header narrowly went over the bar after 100 minutes. Midfielder Tommy Dettmar's effort just went the wrong side of the post and the game remained a draw. In the 110th minute a good cross from the left by Joe Walker found McNicholas inside the Woodbridge penalty area who unselfishly set the ball to the edge of the area to midfielder Joe Wright who's shot rifled into the bottom corner and past the impressive Woodbridge goalkeeper to put Sudbury 2-1 up. Callum Watson found himself through on goal in the late stages of the game after the home team keeper had gone up for a corner but his shot was denied by a great goal line clearance from a recovering Woodbridge defender. Goalkeeper Curtis Child and the AFC defence remained solid and denied the Woodpeckers from getting another equaliser. It was a well earned cup victory for the U18s who came up against a good Woodbridge side.
