AFC romp to victory in friendly.

These two sides from different leagues came together for a friendly 11 a side match in preparation for next season. The game was played in cold, breezy conditions and Brandon kicked off playing into the wind.
AFC started with Charlie Brook in goal and a back three of Spencer Turner, George Basham and debutant Ozzy Johnson, with Kuba Slowinski and Alex Lomax deployed as wingbacks. With the wind behind them, AFC were able to push the wingbacks forward and with Finlay Kent and Olly Stalker dominating the centre of the pitch, Brandon found it hard to escape their own half. The attacking front three of Oscar Taylor and Henry and Oliver Richold were seeing plenty of the ball but some dogged defending and good goalkeeping kept the scores level. It took until just after the mid way point of the first half for the deadlock to be broken when neat approach play led to H. Richold finding space in the box to finish neatly in the bottom corner. AFC were finding their groove with powerful runs from Kent and excellent wing play by Taylor putting Brandon on the back foot. Super footwork and a great cross from Taylor found O.Richold at the back post to tap home and shortly after, brother H.Richold scored the goal of the game after cutting inside and hitting a sweet shot with his right foot from outside the box which curled into the very top corner to give the home keeper no chance.
Brandons defence were starting to put in some very robust tackles and from a resulting free kick, Johnson rattled the crossbar. He didn't have long to wait for his debut goal however,as another good run out from the back saw him hit a lovely shot from the right side of the box into the far corner. H.Richold completed his hatrick as AFC ran riot towards the end of the first half and then right on half time tempers boiled over in a frustrated Brandon defence leading to an AFC penalty and the defender and Kent being sent from the pitch to cool down as the referee did a fine job of keeping the game under control. Brook came out of goal and took the penalty to make the score 6 nil at the break.
AFC were not quite as dominant against the wind and as the first half was about attacking, the second half saw the defence come to the fore as the wingbacks now dropped back to help defend.Harry Byford, Leon Greenly Winterflood and Rowan Howlett were all on for AFC as the game became a bit scrappy with Brandon playing the long ball from the back. Turner, Lomax, Basham and Slowinski tackled and covered to keep the home side at bay while Johnson continued to carry the ball out from the back.
AFC got forward and a cross from the right saw Taylor arrive at the back post to finish for his first AFC goal and shortly after he had his second in almost identical fashion. A change in goal saw Howlett take over the gloves and he was almost immediately facing a penalty after Johnson had handled in the area. The Brandon striker chose to blast his spot kick down the middle but Howlett stood strong and parried the ball away to safety. In a fine show of team unity, every player congratulated the keeper after his fine save. There was still time for Greenly Winterflood to rifle a loose ball past the Brandon keeper to round off a 9 nil win and an excellent all round performance.

Man of the match, Ozzy Johnson, Debut goal and carried the ball forward all game.
