This divisional cup match was played between two teams close on points in the table so was always likely to be a tight game. AFC lined up with Charlie Brook back in goal, Spencer Turner, Finlay Kent and Captain George Basham returning after missing the previous match, in defence and Henry Richold, Alex Lomax, Oscar Taylor and Oliver Richold making up the midfield and Bobby Giles up front. The game was a tough physical contest with both sides putting in some tough tackles. AFC are always a threat on the break and Oliver and Henry Richolds pace and direct running was causing the Hornets defence problems and with Giles dropping deep and playing some lovely balls through for the wide men the away side were being stretched. At the other end Basham covered every run while Turner and Kent provided the physical presence in defence. Brook was quickly off his line to clear anything that did get through. Half time arrived with no goals in what was none the less a gripping and exciting encounter. The second half started in similar fashion with the referee having to keep both teams in check as the game threatened to boil over. Then the deadlock was broken by the away side as awell struck shot from outside the box caught Brook slightly off his line and despite getting a hand to it, the ball went in under the bar. AFC came straight back at Hornets with even more determination and just five minutes later they had their reward. Another quick break found H.Richold in the box. He shaped to curl a shot into the far corner but then pulled the shot into the near post to send the keeper the wrong way with a lovely finish. Kuba Slowinski and Leon Greenley Winterflood came on to give the midfield some fresh legs and soon it was 2-1 to the home side as H.Richold netted his second of the game. AFC were now on top as O.Richold saw a lovely header go just wide of the far post and the Hornets keeper made several decent saves. Then the game turned again as the away side got back on top as they pushed for an equaliser. Brook was called into action to punch away a corner and to save low down to his left but finally the pressure told as the Hornets striker slipped two weak tackles and finished in the far corner to make it 2-2 at full time. Hornets started extra time as they had finished the second half looking to take the lead. AFC were being stretched but after winning the ball Kent played a lovely ball up to Giles who was fouled by the covering defender. Giles took the kick himself and delivered a beautiful ball into the back post area for O.Richold to nod in right on the goal line to make it 3-2. Hornets pushed in the last period without making a clear chance as AFC saw out the game . AFC progress into the semi final of the cup after a huge team effort where every player played their part for a deserved win.
