AFC show fighting spirit

AFC were looking to improve on an 11-1 thrashing by a decent Woodbridge side the previous week. For 15 minutes AFC held their own with Kuba Slowinski, Finlay Kent and Spencer Turner keeping the visitors front line quiet with a solid defensive display. Charlie Brook was taking a turn in goal and showed good handling skills to take a couple of crosses but neither side really created much until an unfortunate deflection fell nicely for the away side and their striker put away their first real chance of the game.AFC did not let their heads drop though and came straight back with a sweeping move of their own which ended with a cross from the right being turned in by Henry Richold. Brook continued to frustrate the visitors with a couple of good saves until finally, after another save , a Woodbridge player was the first to react to poke home the rebound to restore their lead. Alex Lomax and Oscar Taylor were working hard in the centre of the pitch with Bobby Giles up front for AFC and they were almost in when Rowan Howlett played in Oliver Richold down the right but he was just closed out by a Woodbridge defender. AFC came even closer from the resulting corner when Kent headed firmly only to see his effort come back off the cross bar. Just before half time Woodbridge forced a corner and they made no mistake and headed home for 3-1. The score was harsh on AFC but the visitors were just more clinical in front of goal. The home side again came out fighting and got back into the game when Giles released Oliver Richold on the right. He seemed to have missed his opportunity to shoot but he cut inside the defender and beat the keeper with a beautiful passed finish inside the far post. AFC could not hold on though and good pressure saw Woodbridge extend their lead to 4-2. Brodie Henderson came on and had a hand in a move that saw Giles strike the post and soon after Kent hit a shot that was straight at the keeper as chances came and went for both sides due to tiring defences. A mixture of good goalkeeping and poor finishing meant that AFC were in the game until the last 5 minutes when Woodbridge scored two late goals to make it 6-2. The score flattered a little but the visitors just had a little bit more quality. It was however a huge improvement by AFC on recent weeks.

Man of the match, Charlie Brook for an all action display in goal.
