It was a disappointing evening for the Suds, as we were defeated 1-4 by Billericay Town, however there were lots of positives to take.
After a match just over 48 hours ago, we rotated the squad a bit. We lined up Meollo, Dodd Jeffery, Bezant, Jarvis, Provan, Allen, Cantwell, Clennell, Morton, Abrehart. On the bench we had Rossiter, Frazzoni, Edwards, Penny, Nagib.
So far this season we have made our philosophy starting fast, and that continued - as after seven minutes Jeffers swung in a brilliant cross and Jess Allen tapped in, making what was a difficult finish look easy. 10 minutes later, we carried on playing exceptionally well, but Jess Allen just dragged her shot wide when one-on-one with the goalie. With their first attack of the match, the visitors caused a scare as their first shot hit the bar, and then the follow up, despite there being an open goal, blazed over the bar. With just over half of the opening 45 played, we continued dominating, with the Billericay defenders being unable to handle Jess, but she just couldn't get enough curve on her shot and the ball went narrowly wide. However straight after, on a quick counter, the visitors equalised as the attacker slipped the ball under Nina.
Half-Time: AFC Sudbury 1-1 Billericay Town
On the hour mark, the visitors began to grow into the match, as tired legs began to appear on the pitch. Nina was the hero with a superb save with her feet denying a close range effort. With just over 15 minutes to go, Maddie Biggs picked up the match by the scruff of its neck, and gave the visitors the lead; after a shot hit the bar, she put in the rebound with a diving header. Eight minutes after that, just after the Suds had looked to get themselves level, the visitors went on a devastating counter attack and Biggs ‘finessed’ her shot right into the far bottom corner. In the 84th minute she got her third, finishing off clinically to earn an 11 minute hat-trick.
Full-Time: AFC Sudbury 1-4 Billericay Town
Next up, we have a chance to follow up two strong performances, but also bounce back at the MEL Group as we face Actonians in the FAWNL. See you there, Yellows.
