The home side did most of the running in the early period of the first half with Sam Bantick showing up well for them. New signing Anthony Furlonge at right back looked solid enough, Adam Tann was operating in midfield.
The first real chance came on the half-hour mark when Aaron Greene and Rob Eagle combined on the left with the latter having his shot save by the Lowestoft keeper Waite.
With four minutes of the half left AFC goalkeeper kept up his splendid recent form as he saved a blockbuster of a shot from Marsden, stretching out an arm to deny the visitor. The resultant corner saw the ball cleared from the Sudbury penalty area and Sam Bantick racing away to the other end of the pitch, the AFC mans shot was blocked.
