For the second time in 4 days Felixstowe and Walton were the visitors down at the MEL Group stadium and we were all hoping that this time the rub of the green would go slightly more in our favour as the midweek game was baffling as to how we failed to take all 3 points let alone lose!
The weather was perfect, the sky blue, the temperature hot and the F.A.Cup bus was in town. After last years run, could we stride off down the road to Wembley or would we be 'concentrating on the league'.
Sudbury started like they meant to put right the wrongs of Tuesday night and Benno saw a lot of the ball early on, galloping down the right and threatening often and it was from a Liam Bennett run and shot that the first goal arrived after just 5 minutes, the ball arriving to Sean Marks following a deflection from Benno's shot and he made no mistake for his first goal of the season. We had taken the lead for the first time this season. 10 minutes later and following more AFC pressure, Maycock's run into the box was partly smothered by Spurling in the Felixstowe goal but the ball ran wide to Benno who clipped home from an acute angle off the inside of the post. We could and maybe should have seen more goals with Billy Holland having a header cleared off the line and both Harris and Marks having decent opportunities to increase the lead but at the break we went in happy and 2-0 up.
At the break Adam Bailey-Dennis was replaced by Joe Grimwood.
After the break and to be fair at the latter end of the first half we seemed to back of a bit, maybe due to the heat, maybe just calming the game down and conserving energy but it allowed Felixstowe to get back at us a little and 5 minutes into the 2nd half Joe Grimwood's challenge just inside the Sudbury box brought a penalty for Felixstowe. Tom Debenham dispatched it far to Walkers right and into the back of the net and Felixstowe had a lifeline. Within 10 minutes of that Sudbury were themselves awarded a penalty when Maycock was downed in the Felixstowe box. Marks was entrusted with the spot kick but although it was hit with reasonable power it was too close to the keeper Spurling's left and he kept it out fairly comfortably.. unfortunately. Chances continue to be created by Sudbury with Benno often at the heart of things, raiding at will down the right. King Replaced Maycock and Critchley replaced Dettmar as we went in search of the killer goal but it didn't come. Benno was denied twice, King headed over and had a vicious spinning effort clawed off the line and Marks was close on a couple of occasions but we weren't overly threatened ourselves by Felixstowe and 2-1 was sufficient to see us into the next round.
