Oooh well if that's the way 2020 is going to be then good riddance 2019
AFC Sudbury went into their first game on 2020 against a Histon side bang in form. A Histon side that Sean Marks and Freddie King had dismantled away from home on a very hot August day earlier this season....but that was so 2019
This current game saw Sudbury fielding a back 3 that included Lewis O'Malley, who had prior to kick off signed a 3 year deal at the club.
Harris and Bennett played as wingbacks with Dettmar, Hunter and Harrison in midfield and a front two of Marksy and King.
It took just 5 minutes for the floodgates to open. Reece Harris being released down the left before cutting in and firing past the Histon Keeper from a tight angle.
From that wonderful start the side didn't really look back. We controlled the game pretty much from start to finish. We needed a second goal though and chances came and went before on the half hour mark, Freddie King swivelled to volley home in the box from a Benno cross and really that was that. There was no coming back for Histon. 5 minutes later and a Harrison corner from the right was headed home well by Baris Altintop.
So 3 nil up at the break. The question always is do we sit on that or do we go for the throat and kill the game if it wasn't already.
3 became 4 on 57 minutes when another Benno cross reached the head of Reece Harris who's header cannoned off the post but fell into the path of Freddie King to fire home his second of the game.
On 68 minutes Sean Marks was bundled over in the box when clean through on goal. Had it been outside the box then maybe it would have been a red but in the box it was.. there was no VAR to quibble over the decision and Kingy stepped up to fire home and claim his first Hat Trick for the first team.
The game got a little tetchy the longer it went on with Histon frustrated at their inability to stem the AFC tide and their own performance in general and a few loose tackles were starting to go in but 5-0 is how it finished. Love that.
A noticeable difference today was the quality coming in from the flanks BUT was it because we had two up top to aim for rather than just Marksy or was it the service was just that much better? One to ponder. Next up for AFC is Romford on Saturday down in deepest darkest Essex.
