Fourth Draw

Another AFC game, another AFC draw, this was the club’s fourth draw in succession, and again it was another late goal that cost dearly.

This was certainly not the greatest spectacle in the world but the visitors were twice in the lead and again could not hold on with the equaliser coming five minutes from time.

Ian Miller came into the side with Tyler French injured and Ben Hunter was rested with Sam Mills in at right back.

On pitch that was in great condition Mekhi McKenzie (pictured) had a great chance after only five minutes, but from five yards out his shot went straight at keeper Anthony Page. Mekhi McKenzie made amends twelve minutes later, he took a pass from Billy Holland on the right and went into the penalty area and coolly slid the ball passed Page.

Brentwood had an effort from Luke Foster that Jake Jessup saved easily before two match balls disappeared into the darkness of the Brentwood Centre as AFC went in at half time in the lead.

Will Crisell did not re-appear after the break having tweaked a hamstring, Jake Colclough took over.

Andy Freeman playing his last game for the home side had an overhead kick saved by Jessup while Colclough and McKenzie combined at the other end but the ball ended up over the Brentwood bar.

Just before the hour mark and the hosts were level as the ball was not cleared in the penalty area and Freeman signed off with a goal. Five minutes later and AFC were in front again. Ollie Peters was fouled out on the left, he took the free kick that was planted into penalty are and up rose Tom Dettmar to head home.

Ten minutes later Dettmar went off and Ben Hunter replaced him as the visitors endeavoured to hold onto the lead. Again it was not to be as with five minutes left a ball in the AFC penalty area was dealt with and Matt Price helped himself to the equaliser.

Another two points dropped but five games unbeaten on the positive side.
