No Goals But A Point

AFC went to Worthing and came away with a very creditable point in a 0-0 draw. The point gained allowed them to clim above Hendon into twenty-second place and only three points from safety.

Manager Jamie Godbold was able to call upon the services of left back Jack Wilkinson (pictured) who has been missing for the past three months with a hamstring problem, he successfully completed the whole ninety minutes. Cambridge United loanee Dylan Williams made a welcome return to the club.

The game was end to end and both sides had chances to win the game before an attendance of 643 on a 'Pay What You Want Day' at the Bibby Financial Services Stadium.

Worthing were held to a 0-0 draw by Ryman Premier Division strugglers AFC Sudbury at the Bibby Financial Services Stadium on Saturday.

The hosts were unchanged from the side that beat Merstham on Tuesday night with Brighton and Hove Albion loanee Tom Cadman making his home debut.

The visitors started brightly when Joe Marsden rounded Kieron Thorp but his shot from a tight angle cannoned back off the upright.

Worthing immediately countered and Dan Summers played in Dave Herbert whose first shot was saved but he turned in the rebound before realising the flag was up for offside.

Summers then had a shot cleared off the line by a Sudbury defender and Louis Clark rolled a shot just wide of the post.

Thorp had to be on his toes a minute later to tip Rob Eagle’s shot into the side-netting before pushing Marsden’s driven strike onto the post.

The first 20 minutes were end to end and Harvey Sparks came close when his dinked effort after a surging run from Summers dropped just over the bar.

After that the place slowed down with Dylan Williams shooting high and wide for AFC having tricked his way past two men on the edge of the box.

Worthing had the first big chance of the second half when Summers timed his run to latch onto Jack Cook’s long pass, but Marcus Garnham pushed his low shot to safety.

Midway through the half the hosts came close twice in quick succession with Spark’s low shot saved by Garnham and Herbert’s shot blocked by James Baker.

In the closing moments Worthing nearly snatched a winner but Kane Wills’ free-kick evaded the outstretched leg of both substitute Ben Pope and Summers as it finished 0-0.
