AFC travelled to the Kent coast looking to put behind them their recent bad league form whilst on their travels. At one time it seemed likely that the three points would be coming home but a poor second half performance saw them return empty handed.
Manager Jamie Godbold made one change to his starting line-up with Dylan Williams returning and slotting into midfield, with Adam Tann taking the right back position and Jack Newman on the subs bench.
This was AFC’s first ever visit to the Fullicks Stadium and they took a good following with them. The first real action saw Invicta keeper Roberts have to be alert to deny Craig Parker, and then he easily collected a Rob Eagle header. At the other end Marcus Garnham saved well to stop Draycott from scoring.
The home side went in front on twenty-one minutes when Taylor got through and chipped the ball over Garnham. The weather then turned rather sour with the rain pouring down on the players, but this seemed to buoy the AFC squad as they drew level then got in front with two goals in five minutes. Firstly leading marksman Craig Parker collected an Eagle cross to score and then Rob Eagle netted from an acute angle.
Half Time;- Folkestone Invicta 1 AFC Sudbury 2
With AFC ahead at the interval there was hope that lead would be held onto but it was not to be. The home side took only five minutes to level when Chappell was allowed a free header from a corner.
The visitors seemed unable to gain any control of the game, and made a change with Sam Bantick taking over from Jordan Blackwell. However two goals from Cornwall left them only fifteen minutes to gain anything from the game. Liam Wales and Aidan Austin were brought on to try and get something from the game but it was not to be, as the home side in the end run out comfortable winners.
The defeat was AFC’s fifth successive away league defeat.
