Having bowed-out of the Velocity Cup on Tuesday at the hands of Newmarket Town, The Suds lined-up for their second home game of the week against Walthamstow. However, it was back to league action and a chance to build on that fine win at Little Oakley and add to our points tally.
With Kyran Clements available for selection, Phil Weavers took the opportunity to make some changes at the back. Following a minutes silence for 3 year-old Noah Woods of Brantham who tragically lost his life earlier in the week, the ref got our sixth league game of the season underway.
The first 5-10 minutes were pretty even, as each side got the measure of the other. But it was The Yellows that started to look the more threatening of the two and an intense period of pressure resulted in the first of two goals from Reuben Chinnery on 17 minutes. Following good work in midfield from Anderson and Manly, Chinnery resisted the charms of his marker and found the back of the net.
Barnett, Barker, Anderson and Manly were proving too much for the visiting midfield and that dominance resulted in a second for top-scorer Chinnery on 35 minutes, heading in a rebounded Jack Manly effort from the ‘keeper for his sixth Suds goal of the season.
The second-half continued in similar vein with the home side dominating for large periods and Walthamstow, on gaining and retaining possession, failing to find a breakthrough. On 58 minutes Tom Maycock pounced to punish a dreadful mix-up between defenders and ‘keeper for our third and, effectively, claim the points.
Two league wins on the bounce, which move The Suds up to 16th in the table, as we head towards local rivals Felixstowe & Walton United on Tuesday night for what will be a tough encounter.
