AFC Sudbury earned an important three points against Stratford Town, as they closed the gap between the two teams to only one point.

Sudbury nearly opened the score inside 20 seconds, as Myles Cowling drilled a low cross across the face of goal that was stabbed out for a corner by Paul McCone. The Suds continued to apply pressure on the visitors, and got we our reward as after a bit of head tennis where Joe Neal eventually flicked the ball through, Ollie Peters ran onto the ball in a flash before dinking over the top of the onrushing Jacob Weaver, in goal for Stratford. It was very close to being 2-0 as Liam Pearce drove at goal, and his shot was denied by a fingertip save. Not long after, provider turned scorer, as Joe Neal tapped into the empty net after Ollie ran down the right, cutback to Pearcey who saw his first shot blocked into the path of Neal who doubled our lead.

In the second half, Sudbury continued to be on top as a corner was recycled back into the 18 yard box, and after the ball bounced around in the penalty area, Myles Cowling fired into the bottom corner. Stratford tried to get back into the game but were denied by a fantastic save from James Bradbrook. With five minutes to go Stratford had a golden opportunity to score but Daniel Lafferty missed from six-yards out, summing up Stratford’s afternoon.With two minutes of normal time to play there was a first team debut for Tristan Yule who came on to replace Myles Cowling, another academy star in the making!
