It was a disappointing result, despite plenty of positives to take for Sudbury, as Kettering beat The Suds 2-1 in front of a crowd of 1,439.
The Yellows made two changes. Pagey, and Charlie Lewis dropped out, and Myles Cowling (back from his three game suspension), and Liam Pearce came back into the 11.
Lineup: Bradbrook, Isaacson, Henshaw, Dickens, Turner, Peters, Pearce, Cowling, Neal, Allen, Miles. Subs: Bradley, Lewis, Page, and Munson (GK).
The home side, fresh off the back of learning that their FA Cup first round game with Northampton would be televised, started well. They had some neat patterns of play, but The Suds stayed strong, and defended really well, to stop Kettering having any real chances, meaning that Bradders had very little to do in the opening of the match. The Suds, looking dangerous on the counter, had a chance to take a shock lead, and upset the large majority at Latimer Park, as both Ryan Henshaw, and Tom Dickens attempted to bundle the ball into the back of the net, but the ball bounced wide. Right on the stroke of half-time, the hosts took the lead, as Ben Hart swung in a cross that was headed into the back of the net by captain Connor Johnson. It appeared that The Suds would go in behind, when Liam Pearce's cross was headed away in the 46th minute with only an extra 60 seconds added, but the ball fell to Joe Neal, who arrowed the ball directly into the top corner sending shockwaves across the ground, with fans in disbelief at the goal they had just witnessed.
Half-Time: Kettering Town 1-1 AFC Sudbury
In the second half, it was clear to see that the goal had given The Suds a lot of confidence and maybe deflated Kettering a bit, as we began to have more possession, but we failed to make any clear cut chances. Kettering turned to the bench, and brought on Luca Miller, who with his first touches of the game, turned and lofted the ball right into the top corner, scoring a fantastic goal. The Suds kept pushing for an equaliser, Joe Neal drove at goal from about the halfway line and dragged his shot just wide, and Ollie Peters, who was sliding in, just couldn't find a touch to turn the ball home. In the dying embers, Josh Allen was through one-on-one with the 'keeper, but he was denied by a great save from Dan Jezeph who stopped the ball with his feet.
Full-time: Kettering town 2-1 AFC Sudbury
A great performance, and we will carry that into the match with St Ives, where in another tough game we must get the MEL rocking.
