AFC Sudbury continued our impressive home form so far this season, earning another point, this time against title favourites AFC Telford United.
We made one change from our victory over Stamford last week as Liam Pearce came in for Matty Miles.
LINEUP: Bradbrook, Isaacson, Lewis, Turner, Dickens, Peters, Cowling, Neal, Pearce, Allen, Page. SUBS: Henshaw, Philp, Bradley, Cox, Terminiello.
The match started quickly, Callum Page saw his effort saved inside five minutes as the Suds had a flurry of corners all of which amounted to very little. It was the visitors that took the lead. After weak penalty appeals, the game continued, and a split second later Piggott looped his header over Bradders. Four minutes later, Josh Allen stole the ball from the defender, who tripped him in the box, and the referee pointed to the spot. Joe Neal took it and scored, slamming his penalty down the middle!
Half-Time: AFC Sudbury 1-1 AFC Telford United
In the second half, Bradders was called into action early to make a good save from a free kick, which was hit low. Not long after that, the visitors squandered a golden opportunity, as Armson fired over the bar from six yards. We completed our turnaround, as Joe Neal sprayed the ball out wide to Liam Pearce who took one touch, before curling his shot off the post into the bottom corner. Five minutes later it was Remi Walker’s turn to miss a big opportunity, as he blazed over from six yards. In the final minute, Myles Cowling went in with a strong challenge, winning the ball, and then catching the man. However, the ref pointed straight to the spot, in a seemingly harsh decision, made even harsher as the referee then brandished a straight red card to Myles. Dior Angus took the penalty and scored it, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way.
A strong showing by the Suds, and a performance that highlights how far we have come in recent weeks and months. Next up we face Walsham le Willows in the Suffolk Premier Cup, on Tuesday..
