It was a disappointing result on a game changed by the weather for the Suds, as we were on the wrong side of a five goal thriller in the second Suffolk Derby of the season.
We had an unchanged lineup from the win on Saturday. Bradbrook, Turner, Miles, Henshaw, Dickens, Cowling, Peters, Page, Pearce, Neal, Allen. On the bench, Lewis, Munson, Cox, Terminiello.
The Suds started incredibly well, inside 55 seconds Ollie Peters was played through on goal but he dragged his shot wide. Two minutes later, Liam Pearce played a fantastic long ball to Joe Neal, he got past the first defender before selflessly playing the simple pass to Josh Allen, who finished superbly past the goalie. Our lead only lasted 10 minutes though. Jamar Loza picked up on a loose ball and from inside the penalty area fired into the roof of the net. With the momentum with the home side they attacked again, and took the lead as Ben Fowkes turned the ball into the back of the net from a Loza cross. Right on the stroke of half time, the hosts doubled the lead, as a cross from the left hand side slipped through Bradders’ hands, and after a goal line scrap found its way into the back of the net.
Half-Time: Leiston 3-1 AFC Sudbury
In the second half Leiston started well, but the Suds came back into the game, and after a quiet spell in the match, with 15 minutes to go, we got a goal back. Tom Dickens bundled the ball over the line after some neat play, following a failed free kick. Oz equalling his goal tally for last season. In the 94th minutes Liam Pearce was denied scoring a spectacular equaliser because of a fantastic save by Johnson in goal. From the following corner, Bradbrook came up for Sudbury but his header was deflected wide.
