It was a stellar knock from the Suds on bank holiday Monday, as we bounced back from Saturday in the perfect way.
Our lineup was Bradbrook, Lewis (who was making his 50th appearance for the Suds), Turner, Henshaw, Dickens, Miles, Peters, Neal, Page, Allen, Jackson. On the bench we had Brownsdon, Cowling, Pearce, Philp, Bradley.
We started well, like we have for much of this season and for the third home match in a row, we found the breakthrough. Joe Neal applied pressure on the defence, and managed to poke the ball into the feet of Josh Allen, who calmly slotted into the bottom corner. Ten minutes later though, the visitors equalised after a mix up at the back allowed the ball to be played into Kyle Haylock, who tapped in to an open goal. They were not level for long however, Simeon Jackson won a free kick, and after a lengthy delay as a Lowestoft player went down, Ollie Peters stood up to take it, and bent the ball right into the roof of the net! There were worrying signs, as a strong 50/50 challenge saw Simeon go down, and despite continuing for a minute or so he was forced off, Myles Cowling replaced him.
Half-Time: AFC Sudbury 2-1 Lowestoft Town
Early in the second half, we continued to assert our dominance, and Callum Page’s curling effort was denied by the post, as we looked to double our advantage. With just under 30 minutes to go, Liam Pearce came on, making his 5th appearance of the season, he replaced Josh Allen. For the first time in the second half, Bradders was called into action as he produced a super stop, denying Haddoch from scoring. Two minutes later, Ollie Peters ran onto a loose ball after Pearcey had been tackled, and as the goalkeeper sprang out, Ollie took the ball round the goalie, and was brought down… Penalty! Joe Neal stared at the goalkeeper, took it… and scored it - sending the goalie the wrong way! We made a double change, as Jake Turner and Callum Page came off, and they were replaced by Ben Bradley, and Max Brownsdon who made his first senior team appearance after being in and around the team a lot so far this season! With eight minutes to go, Myles played a fantastic ball into Joe, who selflessly squared the ball to Liam Pearce, who scored his first senior goal! What a moment it was, a fantastic celebration, showing how much it meant to one of our ow,n who has been at the club since he was 12! In the 89th minute, we had a fifth, Ollie Peters was fouled outside the penalty area, and he took the free kick, and bent it right into the top corner, even better than his first! Bend it like Peters! Four minutes of extra time was added on, and in the fourth minute of those added on, we got our sixth. Joe Neal played a super dinked ball into Ollie and he squared it across goal to Liam Pearce, who was sliding in, and who grabbed his second. Liam Pearce, he’s one of our own.
