It was a difficult game on Saturday, as a physical battle at the MEL saw us stay unbeaten with a third draw of the season.
We made one change to the starting eleven, as Ben Bradley came in for Jake Turner meaning Joe Neal captained the Suds. So the lineup was Bradbrook, Henshaw, Dickens, Miles, Peters, Neal, Cowling, Page, Bradley, Allen, Jackson.
For the third time this season, we started fast. Josh Allen had a golden opportunity inside seven minutes, but after being flicked through by Ollie Peters, his shot was well saved when he went one-on-one with the goalie. However, not long after with a much more difficult chance, he audaciously chipped the goalie who was practically on his line, to give the Suds a well deserved lead. After a fierce encounter, we still were edging the match, Josh Allen saw his shot tipped round the post, with a fantastic save. However, in the final minute of two added on at the end of the first half, the visitors levelled. The ball bounced around in the penalty area, and Ben Weyman fired into the bottom corner.
Half-Time: AFC Sudbury 1-1 Royston Town
Early in the second half, Royston had a free kick, and after some faking about who was going to take it, the clever routine ended with the ball in the back of the net, but it was disallowed for offside. With 10 minutes to go, Ryan Henshaw’s header was well saved as the Suds looked to grab a late winner. However, after six minutes of stoppage time the match ended level, after quite a stale second half.
