It was another match where the suds must settle for a point, though it could have been three. Our lineup was Bradbrook, Turner (©), Henshaw, Dickens, Miles, Peters, Neal, Cowling, Page, Allen, Jackson. We had Lewis, Pearce, Philp (GK), Bradley, and Terminiello on the bench.
The Suds started fast. Ollie Peters latched on to the ball inside 20 seconds, and forced the Biggleswade goalie into a great early save. We kept on applying early pressure, having four corners in 20 minutes. On the fourth one, we took the lead. Joe Neal’s corner was flicked on by Simeon, directed towards Ryan Henshaw, who couldn’t quite get a touch on it, but adjacent to him was Tom Dickens - who poked home, with his ‘big toe’ as he later claimed on X. Four minutes later, we had our second. Pagey picked up the ball just inside the Biggleswade half in the penalty area, before driving at the defence leaving the full back on the floor, before wriggling his way into the penalty area, and then squeezing his shot past the goalie to double the lead for the Suds. We nearly had a third from a set piece, after Callum Page, who continued to look dangerous, won a free kick, in a similar distance to the one Ollie scored against Hashtag United in pre season, just a bit further left. However, the shot was just too high from Ollie this time. The closest we came after the two goals was with three minutes of the half to go, Josh Allen received the ball in the penalty area, but his shot was directed straight at the goalie.
Half-Time: AFC Sudbury 2-2 Biggleswade Town
In the second half, Biggleswade made a couple of changes, and came out of the blocks fast, Cyrus Babaie saw his shot hit the bar, but he was able to rise highest to head the rebound into the back of the net. Much like the Suds in the first half, the visitors kept applying pressure and Gouldbourne saw his strike flash just wide of Bradders’ post, as the rain kept lashing down on the pitch for a 15 or 20 minutes period. There were strong handball appeals from the Sudbury faithful, the players joined the protests, as Oz’s header back across the face of goal, following a corner that arrived deep from Joe Neal, was blocked by the defender’s arm - but play was waved on by the ref. With five minutes to go, Biggleswade equalised after a short corner was played back to the taker, Ofori, who drove to the edge of the box, and bent his shot right into the top left corner. With the last kick of the game, we all thought that we had won it: Academy Graduate Liam Pearce, who had replaced Ollie Peters, cut inside and released a very powerful shot with his left foot, but he was denied by the bar. An inch and half lower, and it would have been in.

A great game of football that had everything, and now our attention turns to Royston on Saturday.
