It was revenge for AFC Sudbury, as we beat a strong AFC Telford United side that had beaten us only two weeks earlier. In goal we had Bradbrook. Lewis, Oluwatimilehin, and Dickens sat in front. We made one change in the midfield, Malachi Napa dropped out for Tarps meaning it was a midfield of Pinnington, Hunter, Turner (C), and Tarpey. In attack we had Dunne and Page either side of Allen.
It was a nervy opening five minutes, not helped by a fierce effort rattlling the bar from the visitors. However, we then calmed down and began to dominate possession, even if we weren’t doing much with it. However, former League Two striker Montel Gibson then hit the bar for the visitors, the frame of the goal denying Telford for the second time. On the stroke of half-time, we rushed forward as we aimed to get a goal before the break, Josh laid the ball off to Tarps, but his shot was well caught by Hall, who was in net for the visitors.
Half-Time: AFC Sudbury 0-0 AFC Telford United
In the second half, we once again started well. Jacob Pinnington cleverly won a free kick after a darting run, but it was hit over by JT. As we approached the final 25 minutes, Pagey stood over a corner, he played it short to Ben who played it back, a nice one-two, Pagey drilled his pass into the box and Oz fired into the back of the net to give us the lead! We then had two options, sit back, or keep pushing. By now you should know, we don’t park the bus here. Every time Telford came forward, we pushed the back. Tarps ran to the corner and managed to keep it there for a while, a couple of times. In the fifth minute of four, the visitors wasted a golden opportunity to level the score, but the header was wasted.
Full-Time: AFC Sudbury 1-0 AFC Telford United
Well, what a result that was! Two wins in a row, and two clean sheets in a row. This team never fails to amaze me! What a group, What a club! Next up Kettering, we all remember what happened when we went there, so let's put it right next week.
