It was an absolutely magnificent performance by the Suds, as we made promotion chasers Stratford hang on for a point.
We nearly made the perfect start, Malachi Napa curled a shot which hit the post, with a bit of ambiguity about whether Tom Dickens got the final touch on it. As we continued dominating we had corner, after corner, after corner - but nothing came from any of them. The closest we went was Millsey flicking Joe Neal’s corner on to the bar.
In the second half, the visitors attempted to come out with a bit more fire in their belly, but we managed to put that fire out quickly and began to dominate once again. Ben Hunter forced the ‘keeper into a wonderful save, after he hit a long range shot that was curling into the top corner. However, we just couldn’t get a huge opportunity. The final effort of the match fell to Millsey but his shot was well saved by the feet of the goalie. As we went into an unknown amount of stoppage time, we kept pushing to find that winner, but it wasn’t meant to be.
Well, a game where I think the majority of us came away feeling disappointed, but on reflection, we put a heavyweight fight up against a team that comfortably beat us earlier in the season, and we made them hang on! We dominated and really showed what this team is like, and the mentality we have. Respect the point now, and soon enough we will be celebrating three.
