It was a frustrating afternoon for the Suds, as we lost to Stourbridge at home.
We started off the more dominant of the two sides, Millsey went incredibly close to an opener, but he flashed his shot just wide of the post from inside the penalty area. Despite our dominance, Stourbridge took the lead. A long ball from Charles Price in goal reached Niall Flint who drove towards the edge of the penalty area and fired passed Philp. We were then denied what looked to be a stonewall penalty, Romario was completely wiped out in the penalty area when the ball had gone, but the ref said no. Price somehow managed to keep the visitors lead by making a fantastic double save, first he saved a great effort from Rom and then he sprang to the other side of the goal to stop Ben Hunter with his feet.
In the second half, we continued our dominance. Joe Neal couldn’t quite turn his shot into the back of the net from six-yards out. Then three minutes later, Tarps also missed from six-yards out, hitting the post after a ball square across the face of goal. We did finally get what we deserved though, another clever corner routine and the ball was recycled back out to Joe Neal, who hit a strong effort that deflected off a Stourbridge defender and into the back of the net... they all count, and that was no more than we had deserved. However, we were only level for 10 minutes. Niall Flint was given too much space, and he hit a rocket of a shot into the top corner, converting Stourbridge's second chance of the match. Despite us banging on the door in an attempt to get an equaliser, it wasn’t to be, in the dying minutes a dangerous ball bobbled in the box, and no one got a touch on it, summing up our afternoon.
It’s another match where we didn’t get what we deserved, dominant from start to finish, never looked out of control but we don’t get any points from it. We were super and we can all see, especially with recent results, that something special is being built here, we must stick with them, praise them not criticise them, and if we can do that then more wins will come, I’m sure of it.
