It was a tough afternoon for the Yellows as we lost by a single goal to former National League outfit Leamington.
With Bradders being called up to parent duty during the international break, there was a new man in goal for the suds, James Philp and he was forced into action early on, denying Dan Meredith superbly. No chances occurred until right on the stroke of half time; a Sudbury corner was caught by Hawkins, he went long towards Calumn Stewart, who was put off by Ollie Brown, and Philp together, but the ball fell back to Stewart and he fired into the back of the net. A classic counter-attacking goal meant the visitors went into half-time leading.
In the second half, there was not much to shout about. The closest either side went for the first 44 minutes of the second half was when Callum Stewart was fantastically denied by the feet of Philp. We shot into life after that; Adam Mills hit a venomous effort but Hawkins made his first real save of the match, incredibly well. Right at the death, a massive appeal for a penalty was made by the home players and fans, after a push on Millsey but it was waved on. A certain talking point for fans afterwards.
Well, we may have lost but Leamington are a huge club who have been higher, being in the National League North last season, so to only lose 0-1 gives us lots of positives to take with us for the future.
