It was a fantastic afternoon, one to remember for the Suds, in a huge game down at the wrong end of the table, as we turned out 6-1 winners away from home!
It was close to being a horrible start to the match for the Suds, early on Long Eaton hit the post and the follow up effort had to be well saved by James Bradbrook. Despite nearly going behind, we struck first. Some neat play around the edge of the box allowed a quick shot but it was saved, only as far as Ben Hunter on the edge of the box, who curled into the bottom corner with a superb finish! It did not take long for us to double our advantage, there was a mix-up at the edge of the box; but Reuben Marshall slid in and despite getting injured in the process, after his tackle the ball bounced to Joe Neal. He squared it to Adam Mills, who got his first goal since his return by tapping into the empty net! Right on the stroke of half-time Long Eaton capitalised on a quick counterattack and tapped in, after a cross that went across the face of the goal.
At the beginning of second half, the ref made a big call, after a poor tackle on Malachi, the ref showed a red card and Long Eaton went down to ten. The tackle obviously didn’t harm Malachi who found himself through on goal, before ‘caressing into the bottom corner’ the exact goal he said he would to Screechy and me before kick-off, a man of his word! With 20 minutes to go, Ben Hunter scored once again, and his second was even better than his first! From over 20 yards out he drilled his shot into the bottom corner! It should have been five, but Joe just couldn’t tap in after Millsey’s pull back. However, we didn’t dwell on that for long as Ben slipped through Malachi who curled his shot into the top corner and then finally gave Screechy his celebration shot! Into the final five minutes. Joe was provider once again, as he squared to substitute Romario Dunne, who flicked in magnificently, into the back of the net, to round off an amazing afternoon.
Well, that was pretty good, eh? Six goals, Five more on our goal difference, Four different goal scorers, Three points, Two goals each for Malachi and Ben, One long, but joyful journey home.
