Mickleover maintained their 100% record as they put five past us, including two penalties.
It was a horrible start to the match for the Yellows, when an incredibly soft penalty was given. Tom Dickens and the attacker collided, and the ref pointed straight to the spot. Bradders went the right way, but Wright’s penalty had too much precision. A decision, you could say, killed the game. We did go close to equalising, but Tom Dickens couldn’t find the net with his shot following a corner. Despite having a bright spell utilising our width, another penalty was awarded, this time for handball, no questions about this decision. Wright took it and rolled it past Bradders. 2-0. A common theme this season has been penalties given against us. Another unfortunate theme has been us hitting the bar, and Olu continued the latter trend as he rose highest from a corner but was denied by the bar, Romario’s follow up hit the side netting.
Right at the start of the second half, we went close... but... yep you guessed it, Micheal’s volley hit the bar. After a very bright start to the second half, Mickleover scored a third, against the run of play of that half but it was a tidy finish by Ben Sault. Despite us being three down it wasn’t all doom and gloom; Jamie Eveleigh came on for his first team competitive debut, a well-earned appearance! Jamie Bennett also entered the pitch and the two substitutes nearly combined to get one back, a delightful ball by Jamie Eveleigh, to Jamie Bennett but the ‘keeper leapt across his goal to make a brilliant save. Despite us putting up a fight the hosts scored again, a free header at the back post for Andre Wright resulted in a hat-trick for the striker. With five minutes to go Ethan Mann made it 5 for the hosts, it looked like Bradders had it but there was too much power on the strike.
So, not a good result, but hitting the bar twice obviously means something’s coming. How different the game could have been if we had that extra bit of luck. Now we look forward to Tuesday night’s Suffolk derby with Leiston, a six pointer.
I’ll see you there, Yellows.
