The late, late show arrived in Sudbury for the second time this season, as the Yellows held their own against a well-established Step 3 side, Royston Town.
It was a slow start to the match, the only opportunity in the opening 15 minutes was Micheal’s deflected effort hitting the post. Tom Dickens produced a brilliant bit of defending, with a sliding challenge, and he also managed to win us a goal kick. Proper defending. Right on the stroke of half time, there was a glorious opportunity for the away side... but the attacker missed the ball, which went on to run out of play.
We nearly found ourselves having a dream start to the second half, but Micheal and Josh both found themselves denied by super saves. With just over 20 minutes to play, we went behind. A questionable free kick was given, James Brighton stood over it... He smashed it straight into the top corner, absolutely brilliant and there was no stopping it. With time running out, we entered stoppage time, in which six minutes went up on the board. Everybody thought we had equalised not once but twice! James Bradbrook, who was up hoping to get a fairytale ending, nearly got an assist for Joe Neal but his shot was tipped over brilliantly. However, we weren’t going to be denied for much longer. Tom Dickens playing as a striker for the final minutes, flicked on to Joe Neal... GOOOOAAAALLLLLLLL! An absolute rocket from inside the penalty area, a world class finish, so much power.
So, we hold our own against one of many promotion chasers with a brilliant performance. Now we look forward to visiting league rivals Hitchin Town in the FA Cup, and as I've said before... we all love a cup run, don’t we?
