A brilliant goal from Adan George was the only difference as we tasted defeat to well established step 3 side Alvechurch.
The hosts had the better start to the match in the opening five minutes, Bradbrook making a comfortable save to deny an early goal. We then grew into the match, as we pushed forwards, out wide, despite being up hill and the pitch being on a slope. Ollie Brown nearly scored a stunning volley from inside the Six Yard Box, but it was well saved by the goalkeeper.
With about five minutes to go of the half, Adan George scored a beauty from the left hand side of the penalty area, giving Alvechurch the lead.
Right at the end of the first 45, Michael found himself on a yellow after a collision with the ‘keeper – harsh if you ask me.
For the second half, we came out with a bit more fire in our bellies, each touch was a bit sharper, each tackle stronger and the press quicker. Ben Hunter, Jake Turner and Olu controlled the midfield and possession, winning the ball back almost immediately every time. Unfortunately, the ball just didn’t seem to want to end up in the back of the net. Ollie fizzed a ball into the box and it somehow weaved out of the way of everyone.
In stoppage time, with Seven minutes added on, we went agonisingly close. Another delightful ball into the box along the deck by Joe Neal, but no one could find a strong enough connection on the ball, our last chance of the match.
Despite defeat, it’s another strong and encouraging performance. We need to back the boys and support them through thick and thin. On to St Ives.
