It was disappointment for the Suds as we were on the wrong side of a classic Cupset.
We should have taken the lead inside two minutes. Josh Allen was played one on one with the goalkeeper but he rolled his shot wide. The game turned on its head in the 39th minute as within the space of 30 seconds Liam Pearce squandered a good chance by hitting his shot wide, and then with their first attack of the match Samrai Gebrai tapped into the back of the net following a swift counter attack.
Half-Time: AFC Sudbury 0-1 Cambridge City
In the second half, Sudbury started quickly as Callum Page stole possession from the defender, before driving into the penalty area and then being brought down by Thomas Middlehurst in goal. Page took the penalty, but blazed it high and wide over the bar to keep the visitors' lead intact. Fifteen minutes later, a nasty challenge put in by Giani Ashley on Matty Miles resulted in a scuffle breaking out in front of the dugouts. Then Ashley was sent off for that challenge, once the ref had regained control. With ten minutes to go, Joe Neal drove forward before crossing a great ball into the eighteen years box which was met by the head of Tom Dickens, whose shot was deflected wide.
