It was a tough day at the office for the Yellows, as ‘The Canaries’ put in an impressive performance to knock us out.
It was a slow start to the match, a battle in the Midfield; Olu, Ben and Josh all getting stuck in. Throughout the match, Micheal produced his usual trickery down the left flank and his first proper chance happened when he saw a gap in the defence, he cut it back to Ollie Brown who hit a ferocious effort towards goal but the ‘keeper produced a good save. However, the hosts had their very own moment of brilliance to open the score. Down the Hitchin left hand side, the attacker danced round our defence and squared the ball to where Brad Bell was waiting to tap in. Reiss Oteng was one of three changes to the starting line-up, but he received a harsh yellow card during the first half for a foul.
In the second half, we almost found ourselves level early on... but skipper Ben Hunter hit his shot wide of the post. Bradders was forced into a really good stop to keep the deficit at one goal. Unfortunately, he couldn’t keep out the next opportunity as Hitchin doubled their lead. Another clever run, down their right hand side this time, resulted in Finley Wilkinson finishing superbly into the top left corner with seven minutes remaining. In the 90th minute, a penalty was awarded to the hosts. If I’m honest, I have no clue why it was given, and neither did the opposition goalie who agreed with our fans behind the goal. Finley Wilkinson stepped up, and straight down the middle made it three and sent his side to the Third Qualifying Round of the Emirates FA Cup.
A disappointing result to end our FA Cup journey, but we just have to get on with it, back the boys and focus on the league
See you next year Old Friend.
