Penalty Disappointment as our Suffolk Premier Cup journey comes to an end at the first stop
It was a poor night in front of goal for the Yellows, despite a good performance, as we lose out in a penalty shootout. It took a while for the lads to settle, Ipswich rattling the crossbar with a strike from 40 yards, and James Bradbrook producing a fantastic close-range save. We were then let off for a third time as, from six yards out, the Ipswich attacker skied over the bar. Right on the stroke of half time, Ola Bello, playing his former club, hit the post... our time to hit the frame of the goal.
10 minutes into the second half, there was a first team debut. Billy Walsh, our Academy captain, entered the match after he was named on the bench for the first time, a well-deserved milestone. Another academy player fed into our first team. It’s the Sudbury way! With half an hour remaining, we turned up the heat. Ola and Romario being denied by the Town goalie. In the final moments, it was much the same as the story of this season, creating chances but couldn’t find that final finish. If we had five more minutes, I'm sure we would have found the net, but instead, it went to penalties...
On pens, it wasn’t to be. Ipswich scoring all 5 with the Yellows scoring 3 out of 4.
So, disappointing, but that’s how football goes, you win some, you lose some, you draw some, or in this case you draw some and lose on penalties. It is what it is. Let’s just make sure we keep our unwavering support for the lads.
