Sudbury fell to a 5-1 defeat on Saturday at the hands of higher league opposition in Cray Wanderers. There was no shame in defeat as this was a slick Cray side who's passing game appeared telepathic at times. Despite being taught a few footballing lessons it was actually Sudbury who took the lead when young Harry Critchley stole in from his left wingback role to have a crack from the edge of the box. His initial shot was blocked but Critchley tucked home the rebound.
Cray responded within 2 minutes with a sharp effort from the edge of the box that arrowed into the bottom right hand of Walkers net.
Next Joe Wight conceded a penalty, dangling a leg out that was irresistible to the advancing Cray attacker. The Cray penalty taker strode up, tucked the ball to Walkers right and our classy custodian got down to make an easy save.
It was Sudbury's turn for a penalty next as a handball in the box saw Freddie King placing the ball on the spot but alas the result was a similarly poor penalty and comfy save.
Cray then scored twice within a couple of minutes around the half hour mark. The first was after a twisting turning run into the box by the Cray forward then ended with a cool finish and the second being a neat layback outside the box and a fantastic curling finish that gave Walker no chance.
Both sides made changes at the break but there was no change in the direction the game had taken. As hard as Sudbury huffed and puffed and for the amount of possession they had, the Cray keeper wasn't really called into action again and 2 further strikes, both from outside the box sealed an impressive win for Cray Wanderers.
