A young Sudbury side, missing several senior players, took to the field against an Ipswich side that included Irish U21 International Aaron Drinan. Ipswich included two trialists in Portuguese player Quevin Castro who had spent last season at Thetford Town but had started as a youngster at Sporting Lisbon and John Robertson who has played in the Scottish Premiership for St Johnstone.
The visitors were quick out of the blocks and took the lead on just 4 minutes when Irish International Drinan fired home. There was another worrying concern for the home side when Reece Harris limped off after just a quarter of an hour to be replaced by another youngster Matt Wooldridge.
Paul Walker in the Sudbury goal made several good saves in the opening period and it was against the run of play when a long ball saw Louie Fehrenbach mis-control allowing Freddie King to steal possession before producing a precision finish past Egan in the Ipswich goal.
Ipswich were back in front from the penalty spot on 37 minutes when Adam Bailey-Dennis, playing despite being not fully fit, dangled a leg which caught Kai Brown. Drinan stepped up to score his second of the match. As half time approached Ipswich added a third as Castro turned and got away a shot that deflected of Bailey-Dennis and looped past a helpless Walker in the Sudbury goal.
Bailey-Dennis was replaced at the break in a planned change meaning the only non-millennial players on the pitch in the second period for Sudbury was goalkeeper Paul Walker and Tom Dettmar, the latter by only a few days at that. The youngsters were producing very good football and it was on a break that Ipswich added a fourth when Robertson was fouled inside the area before getting up to slot home from the spot.
As the game moved towards it's conclusion it was all Sudbury and the arrears was reduced on 77 minutes when Ben Hammett made good progress down the right before sending a sweet shot past Alley who was now in the Ipswich goal into the bottom corner.
Bennett and King both forced saves from Alley in the final 10 minutes as Sudbury ended the match on the front foot showing they could match their more senior opponents.
