A fairly even first half played on a hot sunny afternoon was fairly even until the twenty-fourth minute when ex- AFC man Nathan Clarke rose to head home a corner to put the visitors ahead. AFC's James Baker thought he had equalised but it was ruled out for offside and the home side soon thought they had been awarded a penalty but again an offside decision intervened.
AFC did level in the fifty-second minute when a Newby cross found James Baker who turned and fired home into the far corner of the net. What turned out to be the winning goal came wit twenty minutes left, a Newby corner went out to Lawrence Yiga who fired goal ward with Ollie Hughes getting the final touch as the ball went in.
A tiring game played in hot weather before a number of ex-AFC players who attended the Aaron Gardiner Memorial Dinner where £2621 was raised for Aaron's daughters.
