Stowmarket Town U16's - 3 AFC Sudbury U16 - 3
In a thoroughly entertaining game AFC twice let a lead slip, hit the bar, went behind and popped up with an equaliser with 5 minutes to go from the most unlikely of players.
AFC started well and went 1-0 up after only 2 minutes, a well crafted move led to a sublime through ball from Charlie Selfridge, Fraser Mann clean through slid the ball past the advancing keeper like a seasoned pro. Sadly this lead lasted 35 seconds. 1-1. AFC continued to dominate the first half and brilliant solo run by Charlie Selfridge ended in him shooting across the keeper into the far corner.
AFC continued to press squandering a host of chances, Stowmarket looked dangerous on the break with Aaron Bean in the AFC goal pulling off a couple of fine saves. On the stroke of half time AFC conceded a needles free kick on the edge of their box. There was confusion and the free kick was fired into the corner. H.T. 2-2.
The second half was a much more even affair AFC hitting the bar through Ollie Abbott and Bean in the AFC goal making some fine finger tip saves. Alas a mistake in the AFC box gifted Stow a 3-2 lead just when AFC were getting the upper hand.
With only five minutes left AFC won a free kick out wide which Mitchell Maskell whipped into the box, there was a scramble before Adam Shipley expertly flicked then volleyed home into the far corner his first goal for AFC after 5 years and in his penultimate game for the club. The celebration was one to behold and could be heard in the Scottish Highlands, with every member of the crowd being high fived.
The final whistle came, Adam was still celebrating, we travelled home Adam was still celebrating, It's Monday guess what, yep you got it, Adam's still celebrating. I think that goal meant something, and that is what youth football is about.
