Reserves take the spoils from inform Imps

Brantham Athletic Ladies 0, AFC Sudbury Women Reserves 1

The yellows picked up their second victory of the season with a hard-fought win away to a strong Brantham team. The only goal of the game came in the very first minute when Isabella Crawford broke down the right and her low cross was deflected into the net by a Brantham defender. The lively start continued with Crawford's pace giving the home defence lots to think about in the early stages. Brantham came more into the game as the half wore on with their central midfielder involved in most of their better moments, but they were mainly restricted to a few off-target long shots as AFCs defence held firm and half-time arrived with us still one up.

The first 15 minutes of the second half saw Brantham enjoy their best spell of the match and at times we found it difficult to get out of our own half although thanks to some very resolute defending and hard work from the entire team our goal was rarely threatened. In fact, it was the home keeper who was much the busier for the remainder of the game as the yellows looked to get the crucial second goal. Tyeonae Smith's pace was causing problems for Brantham and three times she was denied by the keeper who also made an excellent save from a Beth Morrell shot and when the keeper was eventually beaten Daisy Woodward's shot rolled the wrong side of the post.

The win was just reward for the entire squad who had worked very hard for the full 90 minutes. Mention must go to debutant goalkeeper Rachel Weller whose handling and kicking looked assured. She was very well protected by the back four led by player of the match Chloe Haken, and as a result Brantham weren't able to produce a worthwhile effort on target for the entire match.
