Successful England trials for AFC Sudbury Duo

Ronni & Amber progress to the last 64 in England Colleges Trials

AFC Sudbury Girls Football Academy is delighted to announce that TWO of our girls have been selected for the latest stage of the England Colleges FA (ECFA) trials process for 2021.

Amber Provan & Ronni Harrison both impressed the selectors at the Eastern Region trials towards the back end of 2020 and before the current lockdown. They will both be looking to follow in the footsteps of former Boys Academy player Freddie King who last season achieved his full ECFA Cap after making the final squad for the tour of Italy. The ECFA Girls squad also play in the Italian tournament each year.

Amber from Braintree who attended the Tabor Academy School is still a first year (U17) player and is enjoying a fantastic season, playing mainly as a Centre-Back for the girls academy. She has been a key element in our mean defence this season, playing every game in our recent unbeaten run before Christmas. Amber also plays her weekend football for the AFC Sudbury Women's team, she quickly impressed the coaches and became a regular starter for our Women's 1st team, although she plays in a defensive midfield role for the Eastern region side. Amber played club football at Braintree Town FC and was also a member of the Ipswich Town FC ACC before choosing to join our academy at the beginning of this season.

Ronni from Colchester, joined us at the beginning of her U18 year from Barking Abbey and is another mainstay in the Girls Academy’s recent run of fine form. A player who can play in a number of positions, Ronni has more often taken up the role of a defensive midfielder who takes pride in being very difficult to play against. Her superior power & speed has often shut out the threat of the opposition's best player. Ronni plays her weekend football for the Charlton Athletic Women's Development team playing in the FA Women’s National Reserve league, South Division. We are proud to support Ronni in her footballing career and looking forward to following her success once she finishes her third year with us.

Joint Head of the AFC Sudbury Girls Academy Darren Scoulding who attended the Eastern Region Trials was full of praise for the girls ‘Both Amber and Ronni deserved to progress in the trials process, what was pleasing is they showed their personalities on the pitch which is what is needed to get noticed’ ‘In a week when we have announced 14 new players joining our academy for next season, this is a further feather in the cap for the AFC Sudbury Academy and proves what good players we have and the progress these girls and indeed all of our squad are making’

AFC Sudbury Girls Academy still has a small number of places left for the 2021 intake. If you are currently a girl in Year 11 or Year 12 and would like to find out more about what we offer please complete the online registration form HERE!
