AFC Sudbury Women can confirm that Luke Mallett (Manager) and Stefan Mallett (Assistant Manager) will depart the club at the end of the season following highly successful spells in charge.
Luke will leave after 7 seasons of outstanding service, while Stefan departs after 5 seasons, forming a strong and successful management team during their time together.
During their tenure, the club achieved back-to-back promotions, competed for three seasons in the FA Women’s National League (Step 4) — the highest level in the club’s history — and were crowned Suffolk Cup winners on three occasions, marking one of the most successful periods in the club’s history.
Alicja Holland, CEO, comments:
"A massive thank you to Luke and Stef from everybody at the club. Luke and Adrian Goodwin worked so hard to get the team up and running and competitive, with Luke's tenure spanning an amazing 7 years with the club. Although this season has been a struggle, Luke's commitment to continuing to fight and remain a positive influence in the women's section has been greatly appreciated. Luke now has a new chapter in his personal life to focus on, and I wish him the very best with his personal endeavours and his own playing career at Woodbridge.
Stef joined his brother Luke shortly after and has been the calming influence to Luke's passion. Stef's administrative support to the Club Secretary and the team has been paramount to the running of the side.
Please show your support for Luke and Stef at our final two games this season and help celebrate with them at the Women's First Team end-of-season presentation evening on Saturday 2nd May."
Luke comments on his departure:
"I’m personally gutted to be leaving, but it’s 100% the right time for me and hopefully the club too. From where we started to where we are now is absolutely worlds apart, and I couldn’t be prouder. There have been a few down moments but absolutely a lot more highs. From the massive clubs we’ve played against and playing in professional stadiums, to winning league titles, league cups and many county cups, it’s been one hell of a run — all while doing it with 45+ academy players coming through the ranks and playing for the first team.
I’m grateful to so many people at the club and to have had them around me throughout. I wish everyone the best, and hopefully we end the 7 years with another trophy."
The duo have two games remaining in their roles, starting with a trip to face Queens Park Rangers F.C. at Loftus Road this Sunday, followed by a County Cup Final at Portman Road on 20th May.
Their leadership, dedication, and commitment have had a lasting impact on the women’s side, and everyone at the club extends sincere thanks for their incredible contribution.
We wish Luke and Stefan all the very best for the future.
