In only our 4th league game of the season we travelled to Hadleigh for this game.
With injuries and sickness, we not had 12 boys today so we decided to start the game in new formation of 4-2-3-1. The boys looked a little out of sorts in this line up defensively, but were finding lots of space on the attack.
Kaiden continued his great run in front of goal today and soon had us 1-0 up when he was slipped in by Captain Jack to control and slot home.
We kept finding the gaps, but couldn’t find the back of the net and were soon pegged back to 1-1 when a number of individual errors lead to Hadleigh pulling a goal back.
Almost immediately from the re-start, George played in Kaiden again who get in behind the defence to drill home his and Sudbury’s second to re-take the lead.
Kaiden and Max linked up on the left with Max’s shot being saved but there was Captain Jack at the back following in to make it 3-1.
Kaiden completed his hat-trick with a nice passing move starting from Will’s goal kick. Passing to Ron, he got his head up and played out wide to Sasha who had time and space to play it to Freddie before Freddie played it in behind the defence for Kaiden to run on to and drill home - definitely the goal of the game as it looked so simple and effective how they were moving the ball around.
Some great pressing by the attackers saw us make it 5-1 with Max forcing a defensive error and Kaiden latched on to the loose ball. Getting his head up he played in Freddie on the left who cut inside and crossed to Max at the back post to tap in.
Special mention to Harry for when he came on at right back. Even when under pressure he remained calm and was winning tackles as well as playing some nice passes too.
Half time 1-5
There were lots of chances in the 2nd half but we failed to trouble their goalkeeper as much as we would have liked with numerous chances being fired straight at the keeper.
The boys stuck to their task and continued to play some great football, with Jack D playing some great attacking play from right back with Harry now having his turn in goal.
Sudbury extended their lead when a quickly taken corner by Max to Freddie saw Freddie lay it back off to Max who had made a run around the outside before chipping a cross into the box that was met by George brilliantly and placed into the far bottom corner of the goal.
Max got his second of the game when Dougie won the ball back on a breakaway attack by Hadleigh and passed to George. In one movement George played in Max who controlled and cut inside before drilling home from outside the box.
The final goal of the game was a solo effort from George. Winning the ball back from a high press, he hit a left footed shot across goal to make the final score 8-1.
Today’s Man Of The Match was a close call between our 2 right backs for very different reasons. Jack D, playing in his 25th game for the club, was a close runner up for his attacking play and desire to track back when out of possession, but was pipped to it by Harry for his best outfield performance of the season and a calm and composed game in goal with his kicks and decision making the best it has been all season. Well done Harry.
