AFC Sudbury is sad to announce that from the end of November 2024 David Cannon is moving on from his role with the Academy and position as Reserve Team Manager.

David is currently in his 11th Season at the club and has enjoyed numerous successes as a teacher and coach within our Academy. It should be noted that during these 11 years he has held the position of Head Coach of the AFC Sudbury Reserves, the pinnacle team of our boy’s academy. This is a remarkable period of service to the position of reserve team manager at any level of football.

The many individual and team achievements of the AFC Sudbury Academy players in either the classroom or on the football pitch is a testament to the daily commitment to the academy and the personal development of all our players that Mr Cannon has given.

Together with current Head of Football Danny Laws, David was instrumental in the formation of the Academy. The current growth and the continued progression under Academy Manager Craig Power today is made on the foundations laid in the 2014/15 season. A highly popular staff member with the students here at the academy one of David’s biggest achievements is with our Girls Academy when he stepped in mid-season to coach the U19 girls team to back to back national titles defeating Northampton Town Academy both years in the final.

An ever present staff member on the annual USA Tours his experience and good humour will be missed by all..

To celebrate David’s service to our football club and wish him well in his new venture we are holding our inaugural AFC Sudbury Academy Alumni Match here at the MEL Group Stadium on December 22nd KO and further details to be announced shortly. All former and current players are invited to attend the match in what should be a great occasion to kick off the festive period.
