Little did David Webb know when he attended a match between March Town and Sudbury Town in 1981 with his son that he would end up being involved with local non-league football for the next forty-one years.
First as a gate man at Sudbury Town and then thrown in at the deep end to take over as Football Secretary.
With the merger of the two clubs and the formation of AFC Sudbury, David transferred over and continued in the role. A position he held until his retirement earlier this year.
David has been a fantastic secretary; supported by his wife Tricia he was totally dedicated to his job, keeping first Sudbury Town and then AFC Sudbury well organised and working within the FA rules and regulations.
He is well known and respected by clubs throughout non-league football with friends and acquaintances in virtually every club in the South-East of England.
Despite numerous requests from other clubs for David to take over as their Secretary, he always remained loyal and dedicated to Sudbury Football. Needless to say, he has been very difficult to replace, and we now have two people handling the work he used to do on his own.
In recognition of his fantastic contribution to football in Sudbury and his standing in Non-League Football we have great pleasure in presenting David with a salver recognising his service and a painting of the old Jubilee Stand at Sudbury Town’s Priory Stadium which he spent so much of his time looking after.
Thank you for your hard-work David and for the help and guidance you have given us all over the last forty-one years.
