This morning we were privileged to witness a hard fought game between AFC Sudbury Avengers (playing in yellow) and AFC Sudbury Yellows (playing in red).
The game was a close fought encounter with the Avengers taking an early lead with a defence splitting pass down the right from Thomas and Jude chasing into it before cutting inside and placing a brilliant finish in to the bottom corner.
It was end to end football with the Yellows pressing for an equaliser but the Avengers pegged them back after winning a corner. Dylan crossed the ball in and a mix up between Oliver and Kray resulted in the Avengers taking a 2 goal lead.
This seemed to spur the Yellows on and they kept pressing the Avengers back line. From this, the Avengers cleared their lines with a kick up field and a first time strike from just inside the Avengers half, from Thomas, brought the score back to 2-1. What a way to open your account for the club Thomas?!
The Avengers kept pushing and looked like they were going to take a 3-1 lead into half time with another great strike from Jude, but Kray somehow managed to get a hand to his shot and push it on to the post and away to safety meaning the score was still 2-1 at the break.
Both teams came out fresh for the second half, and were pushing for more goals.
Another goal finally came, with a similar goal to the first half, but this time it was Brooke playing a defence splitting pass and Lucas ran on to it, hitting it first time from outside the area and placing it in to the bottom left hand corner to make it 2-2.
Both teams continued to push for a winner, but in the end it finished 2-2 which was a great result for both teams.
There were so many positives to take away from the game today, and it is a great morale boost to take in to our next games for both teams which are at home next Sunday.
Avengers Man Of The Match today was awarded to Tom.
Yellows Man Of The Match today was awarded to Brody.
Every single player could have been named Man Of The Match as you all worked tirelessly and played really well.
Well done boys. Good luck next week
