It was always our intention to run a bespoke girls football academy and I am delighted to announce that we have 18 Full-Time Scholars who will make up our squad of Academy Girls.

The AFC Sudbury Academy will grow again for the 2019/20 season as it welcomes a Girls Cohort of Full-Time scholars into its widely acclaimed football development programme this Summer.

The Academy which is entering its fifth year is building on the success of Eloise King, Eboni Mae-Shepperd, Ellie Mitchell and Amy King who have just completed a year with the academy training alongside the boys programme.

Academy Director Danny Laws said ‘it was always our intention to run a bespoke girls football academy and I am delighted to announce that we have 18 Full-Time Scholars who will make up our squad of Academy Girls.’

The AFC Sudbury Girls academy are delighted to be accepted into the ECFA Women’s Premier League. These Matches will be played on Wednesday afternoons against other England Colleges FA Girls Academy Teams. The philosophy of the ECFA National Premier Divisions is to provide the highest quality national league competition for 16-19 year olds.

Academy Director Danny Laws said ‘this is the only bespoke girls academy in the region, our nearest away game will be against USP Storm in Southend and we are in a league with the highly regarded Barking Abbey girls football academy who have won national titles. This is a great opportunity for young female players in the region to have the same opportunities as the male players.’

To officially launch the Girls Football Academy AFC Sudbury have arranged a ‘showcase’ match against one of the most successful girls academies in the country, Sunderland FC Foundation of Light Football and Education Scholars. Since its inception in 2017 the FOL Scholars have won league titles each season and have notable players progressing to play for the SAFC Ladies team including Jael Anderson - SAFC Ladies and England U18, Emily Hutchinson - SAFC Ladies and England U18 and Maria Farrugia - SAFC Ladies and Malta Women's National team.

This match on Monday August 5th 2019 with a 7:30pm KO at the MEL Group Stadium is free to enter and the club would like to encourage as many Women’s and Girls Football Fans as possible to attend.

Danny Laws said ‘what a great opportunity to see some excellent women’s and girls football here in Suffolk. The invite goes out to all the Girls football teams in the region to come down and have a look at what we are doing as well as see a great team from outside the region in action.’
