AFC Sudbury and Cornard Dynamos agree Three Year Partnership to Promote Girls’ Football in this area.

AFC Sudbury and Cornard Dynamos have agreed a Three Year Partnership to help promote and nurture Girls’ Football in the Sudbury and Great Cornard area.
The objective of this partnership is to help to generate enough interest in Girls’ Football for both clubs to go on to build their own Girls’ and Women’s teams at all levels and to go on compete in robust and resilient leagues in future years.
AFC Sudbury’s Danny Laws explains “Despite the significant growth in interest in Girls’ and Women’s Football, the evidence suggests that there are currently insufficient numbers of Girls in our ‘catchment’ community who want to play football to warrant two teams at each age group.”
“We also recognise that Cornard Dynamos has built a healthy grass roots Girls’ section. Given their close proximity, we have been concerned that any attempt to recruit younger Girls into our club at this point in time will both serve to dilute the quantity and quality of both club’s Girls’ teams in the short to mid term; hence this agreement.”
Cornard Dynamos Chair, Chris Fisher, continues: “For the next three seasons, AFC Sudbury has agreed not to start its own Girls’ section for players aged U7 to U12. During this period, for U13s and upwards we will signpost our more developed and ambitious players to AFC Sudbury’s JPL League elite teams that play on Saturdays and to the highly successful Academy which they can join at the age of 16. This would all supplement the grassroots offering that Dynamos offer and give a great player pathway for local girls.”
He continues “It is important to state that the partnership is fully transparent to all stakeholders: parents, players, the FA and any other interested parties. The agreement is what the FA refers to as ‘a hub’ in which those of us committed to delivering all the heath, wellbeing and societal benefits that football brings to individual participants and communities as a whole come together to share capabilities and resources to provide practical, cost-effective access for all.”
In conclusion, during the three year partnership both partners will carefully track the development and status of Women’s Football nationally and the appetite for Girls’ and Women’s Football within this area in order to make the right decisions for the wider community at the end of the agree period.
