The taste of three points makes the long way home worth it as we do the double over Haywards Heath

It was a terrific victory for the Suds, as we beat fellow strugglers Haywards Heath in a tight battle at the bottom. We had Carter in goal. Dodd, Harrison, Lambe, and Provan at the back. The midfield trio of Bezant, Jouvenel, and Frazzoni were holding down the middle of the park, and in attack we had Allen, Drake, and Jeffery. On the bench we had Egan, Goodwin, Penny, Jarvis, and Brame.

The Suds started the better of the two sides, even though it was a bit scrappy at times, but there were no real chances for either side. However, we did find the breakthrough with just over a quarter of an hour played. Eva played the perfect pass to Yazmin who squared the ball to Jess Allen who tapped in to finish off a brilliant team goal! Two minutes later, we very nearly had a second. Jeffers ran down the left-hand side after beating a player and crossed into the box, but nobody could get a toe on to it. As half time approached, we had yet another near miss, once again Jeffers bombed down the left and crossed but, we couldn’t get the final touch to direct the ball home, the ball being just out of reach of Jess Allen this time. The home side attempted to catch us on the counter, but Millie sprinted off her line and cleared, to keep our slender lead going into the break.

Half-Time: Haywards Heath Town 0-1 AFC Sudbury

In the second half, the match began to feel tense, neither side really got a hold of the match. The balance swung in our favour though, when a Hayward player was sent into the the sin bin for 10 minutes for verbally abusing the ref after a handball decision did not not go in her favour. A few minutes after that, Ava was denied by a magnificent save by the goalie who was at full stretch, diving down to her right. However, a minute later Ava did get her goal as she danced round the defence before rouding the ‘keeper and tapping into the back of the net and finally doubling our lead. We were inches away from having a three goal lead, but from a tight angle Jess hit her shot wide. With full time drawing nearer and nearer the home side really should have got one back, but after finding themselves one on one with Millie she some how managed to hit the bar from 12 or so yards, maybe even less! Meaning that for the second game in a row in all competitions we kept a clean sheet!

Full-Time: Haywards Heath Town 0-2 AFC Sudbury

Well, what a team, what a performance and what a win! Massive in our hopes of survival, which would be such an achievement at this high of a level. Now, we have three league games left AND a Cup final, so let’s make the most of the rest of this season Yellow’s, and make it one that we will never forget.
