It was a tough afternoon for the Yellows as we lost out to London Seaward at the beginning of ‘The Run In’. For the Suds, we had Carter in goal. A backline of Harrison (C), Jarvis, Lambe, Jeffery. In the midfield was Bezant, Jouvenel, Frazzoni and Goodwin, with Allen and Leyer in attack. On the bench, we had Provan, Donley, Dodd, Brame and Penny. That subs bench goes to show the strength in depth that we now have.
The Yellows started with more of the ball, no chances being created though. London Seaward, with their first attack, were the ones to open the scoring, however. Mulvaney played a phenomenal pass through the middle of the yellow defence before the ball was played across the face of goal and tapped in by Thomas-Arayo. As the Suds looked to get back in the game, Seaward quickly doubled their lead through Thomas-Arayo once again. With the game already looking tough to find a route back into for the Suds, it got even tougher as Long dinked over Millie. Halfway through the half, the match looked well and truly wrapped up, as Burrows fired into the back of the net.
Half-time: AFC Sudbury 0-4 London Seaward
In the second half, we started a lot brighter than we had finished the first half. An early free kick, which could have been a penalty, went just over the bar. Then, Arayo was sent into the sin bin for a cynical foul. As we looked to capitalise on the visitors being a player down, Leyer cut back to substitute Chloe Brame who fired in, to give a slither of hope to the home fans. Shortly after, provider turned scorer, as Leyer, who had seemed like she had just done too much, managed to get past the ‘keeper and give a bit of true belief to the fans. However, the comeback wasn’t to be, and we fell to defeat.
Full Time: AFC Sudbury 2-4 London Seaward
Well, a disappointing afternoon but an excellent second half where we scored twice and kept a clean sheet. Over the last few seasons, I'm sure you have been able to pick up the level of talent in this team, and we know they won’t give up. We also all knew this season would be a different challenge, but we must keep backing them until the very end.
