Still Settling in

On our return home after two away games, it was disappointment for the Suds.
After a dominant start to the match, with some nice football being played but no chances being created, Millie was the first ‘keeper called into action. She made a fantastic save to deny an in-swinging corner from nestling in the top corner. However, she couldn’t stop the next attack as high up the pitch QPR won the ball, it was squared across goal and Grace Stanley tapped in. Despite going behind, we maintained the mentality that we would be going toe to toe until the final whistle, and we were denied by some goalkeeping heroics as Jess Allen’s one on one shot was well saved, before Kate Edwards’ follow up was blocked. We went into halftime trailing.

The second half certainly didn't go to plan. Inside three minutes Searle went one on one with Millie and finished to double the visitors lead. We very nearly got a goal back, but Jess Allen’s half volley was well saved once again by the QPR goalie. Millie made sure once again that QPR wouldn’t have it easy, as she made a fantastic close range save following a corner. Unfortunately, QPR’s attack just couldn’t be contained as Grace Stanley scored once again to make it 3-0. 10 minutes later, Nygaard-Parson completed the score with a strong headed finish.

Well, it didn’t go to script, but we can still be proud of how we battled against a very good team, especially in that first half. Every game in this league is tough and we are bound to have an occasional off day, that’s football, that happens but we’ve shown time and time again that we can challenge with these sides, so now we dust ourselves off, learn a few lessons and go again.
