Ashford score six as we have a bad day at the office

It was a tough afternoon for the Yellows in the boiling sun, as we fell to defeat to a strong Ashford side.

It was a horrible start for the Suds, inside six minutes, Ashley Cheatley was slipped through, looking offside but the flag stayed down, and with quick footwork went round Millie and tapped into the back of the net. Less than 10 minutes later, the hosts had a penalty. An alleged handball by Holly, and the ref pointed to the spot. Alissa Down stood up... and it was a phenomenal penalty, nothing that Millie could have done. Holly and Kate almost combined to half the deficit, but Kate’s clever shot was well held by the goalie. Millie was called into actions multiple more times making superb stops to keep the score only at two. However, with 15 minutes of the half remaining it became three. Brogan Moore finishing perfectly, right into the side of the net. Then came a brilliant goal, the ball was crossed and up stepped Aimee Durn who smashed home a fantastic half-volley, spectacular.

We came out brighter in the second half, controlling the ball sharper and passing quicker. However, on the 51st minute, another penalty was awarded - a trip by Ronnie in the box and the referee instantly pointed to the spot. Down stepped up again... and scored, Millie did go the right way but once again it was an unstoppable penalty. Five minutes later, we did get a goal back. A goal mouth scramble and Keira Harms rose highest with a great header from close range. A common theme in this match was penalties, and another was given with just over 20 minutes remaining. A ‘push’ by Ali meant the ref gave his third penalty of the match. Down stepped up, and she rifled home for her hat-trick, a hat-trick of penalties. I haven't seen penalty taking that good in a long time, all right in the corner, all unstoppable even with Millie going the right way for all of them.

Well, the match didn’t go to plan, but we know this team, we know that they will all bounce back, so bring on Tuesday, and I will see you there!
