We reach The Suffolk County Cup final by putting FOUR past Needham Market

It was a County Cup semi-final to remember for AFC Sudbury, as we reached our second final in three years. We lined up with Carter in goal, a backline of Harrison, Dodd, Lambe, and Provan. Bezant, Jouvenel, and Frazzoni were in midfield, with Penny and Jeffery on the wing and Drake occupying the middle of the attack. On the bench we had Egan, Donley, Godwin, Brame, and Allen. Although, there was rolling subs, so a lot of switches happened throughout the match.

It was quite a slow start to the match, though, the Suds started the better of the two sides. Yaz forced the goalie into a really good save as the Yellows began to click into first gear. Alex went very close to giving us the lead, but once again the ‘keeper made an excellent save, with her feet this time. Eventually, we did take the lead, Jeffers drove forward, and she slipped the ball through to Jess Allen who calmly nutmegged the goalie. Like a knife through butter!

Half-Time: AFC Sudbury 1-0 Needham Market

In the second half, Needham came out the blocks, and Millie was forced to make an excellent save one on one to keep us in front. Halfway through the second half, the flood gates opened. Jess ran down the wing and squared the ball into Yazmin drake and she finished magnificently. Scorer turned provider! Two minutes later, Yaz got a second! Almost a carbon copy of her first goal as Jess once again got the assist, after a super run down the right she played it to Yaz who was able to tap in. Six minutes later, it was four. Jess Allen capitalised on a huge defensive error in which the defender completely stitched up the goalie, and Jess managed to fire into the back of the net. Near the end, Millie made another wonderful save to keep her clean sheet intact. Near the end of the game, Needham players were beginning to lose their head, but our team were excellent in staying professional!

Full-Time: AFC Sudbury 4-0 Needham Market

Well, what a performance, especially in that second half, and it always looked like the result was going one way only. Next up, the big matches just do not stop as we play Haywards Heath in a huge game down at the bottom of FA Women’s National League. See you there, Yellows!
