A memorable afternoon as we hit FIVE

It was a perfect afternoon for the Yellow’s, as we comfortably earned our place in the County Cup semi-finals, despite a spirited performance from the visitors Woodbridge Town. We lined up with Prior in goal with Harrison, Jeffery, Donley, Bezant, Jarvis, Penny, Goodwin, Allen, Dodd, and Frazzoni outfield. The subs were Egan, Howe, Brame, Jouvenel, and Edwards.

We made a bright start, inside fourteen minutes Jeffers stood over a free kick from far out, she hit it perfectly as it flew into the top corner queuing celebrations from the Bumper Crowd. Three minutes after that we doubled our lead, a mix up at the bounce and Eva pounced before calmly slotting the ball into the bottom corner. Then, halfway through the half, the goal that everyone wanted to see was scored. Some neat build up play resulted in a ball being played across the face of goal where Alex Penny slammed in for her first goal on her first start back. Incredibly well deserved! We then made a quintuple substitution which was an absolute nightmare to tweet and announce at the same time! Off came Harrison, Donely, Goodwin, Allen and Frazzoni, with Egan, Howe, Brame, Jouvenel and Edwards replacing them.

In the second half, the game setteled down and once again we made a quintuple substitution. Bezant, Jeffery, Jarvis, Penny and Dodd came off with Harrison, Donely, Goodwin, Allen and Frazzoni re-entering the match. It didn’t take long for them to spring into action, as big handball claims were made after a clever run down the right. We then rattled the crossbar for the first time in the second half, as Maise’s powerful shot was denied - going into the top corner from 30 yards out. However, two minutes later, Maise won a penalty after a super run through the middle. She stepped up... and calmly sent the goalie the wrong way. In the final minute, we hit the bar again after a long shot from Ava was denied by the woodwork, but this time Jess Allen was on hand to turn in the rebound.

Well, a brilliant performance from everybody, and great to see some debuts, returns, and some more minutes for others. Hopefully we can continue with that form into the league. What better place to start than Worthing on Sunday, at the MEL, eh? See you there Yellows!
